Meet Katie

Welcome to my blog!  This blog was started for a course at IU several years ago and has continued to grow and evolve through my program.  Thank you for your interest in getting to know a little about me.

I'm Katie Dixon (she/her/hers) and I'm working toward my Ed.D. in Instructional Systems Technology.  I recently completed the certificate that I earned waiting to be accepted into the Ed.D. program, and now I look forward to completing my doctoral degree.

My bachelor's degree is in Secondary Education from DePauw University and I taught 7th grade Language Arts for several years in a suburb of Indianapolis.  I earned my Masters of Education degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, and then left teaching to raise my sons who are now 15 and 13.  Currently, I work in the travel industry as a Travel Advisor focusing on Disney, Universal, Cruises, All Inclusive Resorts, Hawaii, Adventure trips and more.  In fact, I'm currently on a work trip in Costa Rica as I write this blog post!  Here is a picture I took a bit earlier from my resort room at the foot of the Arenal Volcano which we hiked part of earlier today.

Formerly in my current role, I worked as a trainer and I see myself moving into a training and development role in the future - either in corporate world or an educational setting.  For this course, I'm hoping to have an opportunity to work with some of my ideas on online learning (it has changed a lot since my first online course in 2005!) and especially how it relates to AI use in education.

Outside of work and school, I love to travel and watch my boys enjoy their favorite activities - marching band, percussion, baseball, basketball, academic teams.  I also am a current member of the school board in my community and also volunteer with several community organizations.

I look forward to getting to know others in this course over the next few weeks!
